Camoflage shorts :o)

Well, if camo isn't an option for the casts he can at least wear camo shorts.  1 pair of shorts and 3 pairs of undies down, many more to go....but, probably not today.  Time to figure out what I'm making for dinner, then pack for the hospital and then just maybe I'll get some sleep. Maybe.

Camoflage Casts

So, does anyone know if camo is an option for cast colors?  That's what Braiden wants.  He is taking things quite well for now, last night he asked me if he was going to the hospital tomorrow.  I told him a couple more days. He is such a brave and determined little man.

So, a few things got taken care of on my list of lists ;o)  House is in much better condition, laundry fairies seem to have quit, but I managed to make a dent in the mountain of clothes.  Talked to Dr.'s secretary and found out that the surgery will last about 2 hours and he should get to go home on Saturday...so not to horrible.  Still have some sewing to do for clothes (shorts and undies) for Braiden once he's in the casts.  Braidens personal items picked out, washed and packed.....yesterday was quite productive.

Make a list of things I need to bring to the hospital
Make a list of things I need/want to get done before we go to the hospital (house has been very neglected)

Not surprising, but unexpected.

"The Plan" page has been updated with the details of the last few appointments.  Although we knew that surgery was always a possibility it is still unexpected.  You never want to think of your kiddo needing to have surgery.  We broke the news to Braiden last night.  He was not happy about needing surgery, he walked away and wouldn't listen to anything beyond needing surgery.  However, this morning the first thing he says to me was, "Mommy, do I need surgery?"  So, that opened the door for a conversation about what will happen.  He listened and asked questions and stated "I hate Percy's disease!"  I told him I understand.  We talked about what it means to be brave, that being brave doesn't mean not being afraid.  Being brave means doing what you need to do in the face of fear.  It was a good conversation.  I'm sure we'll have many more conversations as he processes what he about to go through.

I also had a conversation with Sebaztian last night about it and how it might be affecting him. I made sure he know I was proud of how much he cares about his brother and how mature he was being about it.  We talked about life after the surgery and how much attention Braiden will need.  I ackowledged that Sebaztian may feel "left out" and that we would do our best to make sure he doesn't feel that way, but, I told him to make sure to come to me and let me know if he was feeling upset, frustrated or left out and we would do something about it.

As I stated surgery is not a surprise but it is unexpected.  I have confidence in the Doctor.  But am I freaking out....yeah, just bit.  Please keep Braiden and us in your prayers.

The plot thickens........

Had an appointment today.  The Doctor is concerned about how much of the growth plate and femur head is involved.  It happens but is not common.  Also, the head of the femur has "spread out", the Doctor likens it to melting ice cream.  Essentially it has become slightly deformed and is standing out a little beyond the hip bone.  He said this is likely the cause of the increase in pain over the last month and a half.  We will be going in tomorrow morning for an arthrogram (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthrogram) to determine if Braiden needs surgery.  If surgery is needed he will be in the hospital for a few days, then need to use his wheelchair for 4 weeks with absolutely no weight bearing, then transition to a walker.  Thats all I know for now, I'll post again tomorrow with the results.
